Training a search dog for national certification is very difficult,
and can become a full time job. Training, travel and equipment
costs run into the thousands, with the prospects of certification
unlikely. Nationally certified search dog teams must then be prepared
for call–outs to potentially dangerous disasters, which can involve long
distance travel, uncomfortable conditions and significant duration.
